Honda The Other Side: A dual-narrative interactive film, The Full Story

John is a mild-mannered accountant by day but transforms into a daring street racer by night.

He drives a Honda Civic Type R, a car that can switch between Comfort and Sport modes. John loves the thrill of racing, but he must also balance his responsibilities as a father and a husband.

One night, he gets a call from his old friend Mike, who invites him to join a secret race across the city. John hesitates, knowing that his wife and daughter are waiting for him at home. But he can’t resist the temptation of one last adventure. He switches his car to Sport mode and speeds off to meet Mike.

The race is intense and dangerous. John has to dodge traffic, police, and rival racers. He enjoys the adrenaline rush but also feels guilty for lying to his family.

He wonders if he made the right choice. He reaches the finish line, discovering that Mike has betrayed him. Mike works for a criminal gang that wants to steal John’s car.

John is surrounded by armed thugs who demand the keys to his Honda. John refuses, knowing that his car is more than just a vehicle. It’s a symbol of his dual identity, his other side.

John decides to fight back. He uses his driving skills and car features to escape from the gang. He switches between Comfort and Sport mode, depending on the situation.

He manoeuvres through narrow alleys, jumps over ramps, and drifts around corners. He manages to lose the gang and reach his home safely.

He decides to quit racing and focus on being a good father and husband.

He still loves his Honda Civic Type R but only uses it for commuting and family trips. He has found his true balance.

Widen Kennedy built a nice story and an interactive.

– Fast Company

Honda is known for being safe and reliable, but another aspect is a sharp and fast car born from Honda’s Racing Heritage.

To get people interested in the new Honda Civic, show two aspects of the Honda Civic Type R: Practical Family Car and High Performance ‘Type R’ mode.

We designed a two-way film that lets viewers switch between a suburban school-driven story and an art history story by typing “R” on their keyboard – a function that reflects the type R’s race button.

During the day, a loving father picks up his daughter from school. In the middle of the night, he’s changing her. Viewers can seamlessly switch between the two worlds by pressing ‘R’ on their keyboard or tablet. The effect is pleasurable and addictive.

People have spent more than three minutes experiencing this. That’s enough of an automated promotion. It was the most rewarding campaign in the world in 2015. Website traffic doubled during the campaign.
