A Smart Entry System replaces a key or key fob with technology that allows your vehicle to be locked and unlocked without needing a key. The Smart Entry System will be an extra hand if you have groceries to carry.
It’s okay to leave the smart entry fob in your pocket or purse when you use the Smart Entry System. For the system to work, it needs to be within 32 inches of the vehicle.
What Is Smart Entry?
Smart Entry is the technology embedded into your key fob to lock and unlock your vehicle without taking out the remote.
For this technology to work, you must have the device and be within 32 inches of an exterior door or tailgate handle.
The doors will automatically unlock if you grab the front door or tailgate handle and meet these criteria. However, they will re-lock if you don’t open a door within 30 seconds.
The front door lock button or the tailgate lock button can be pressed while meeting the same criteria to lock the doors.
Smart Entry System Process
In addition to providing additional safety features, the Smart Entry System is pretty simple to use.
Unlock doors: Walk up to your vehicle, and the doors will automatically unlock as long as your Honda key fob is in your purse, pocket, or simply nearby.
Push Button Start: Take your Honda out of the parking lot, enter the driver’s seat, and press the Push Button Start.
Lock doors: Leave your vehicle, and your doors will lock automatically after you walk away.
How Does Smart Entry Work?
When the driver presses the power button at the end of the trip, the Smart Entry system unlocks the vehicle, starts it, and shuts it off. You simply touch the LOCK button on the door handle to lock the car.
A key fob is all that is needed to open the trunk, which can be accessed just above the license plate. Simply grab the front door handle of the vehicle to unlock the doors. Once the signal has been validated, it will unlock.
You may experience slow or no response if you are wearing gloves. By pressing the trunk release button, you can unlock the tailgate.
During off-use, you can lock your vehicle by pressing the door lock button on its front door handle. The smart entry key fob should be removed before the vehicle can be locked.
Vehicles with smart entry key fobs will start beeping and pop open their trunks if the fob is located in the trunk. Be sure to lock or unlock the vehicle within 2-3 feet of the fob.

Smart Entry systems that feature Walk Away Auto Lock technology eliminate the need to press the lock button every time you leave your vehicle.
The Walk Away Auto Lock technology is activated when you exit the vehicle and have the key fob within five feet. A beeper will sound, and the exterior lights will flash as soon as you step beyond five feet.
