The Honda Odyssey is a popular minivan known for its spaciousness, comfort, and convenience. One feature that makes the Odyssey stand out is its sliding doors, which provide easy access to the vehicle’s interior.
However, at times, Honda Odyssey owners may experience issues with the sliding doors, such as the door, not opening, which can be frustrating and inconvenient.
Several reasons can cause a Honda Odyssey sliding door not to open, ranging from simple issues like a dead battery to more complex problems such as a faulty latch or damaged cables.
These issues can prevent the door from opening manually or electronically, making it challenging for passengers to get in or out of the vehicle. If you’re facing this issue, it’s essential to identify the cause and take appropriate measures to fix the problem.
Honda Odyssey Sliding Doors Not Working
Power sliding doors open by pressing the / switch on the OPEN side and close by pressing the / switch on the CLOSE side.
Press the switch that corresponds to the power sliding door while it is in operation, and the beeper will sound, stopping the operation.
However, the automatic doors of the Honda Odyssey may not work due to an electrical problem or a clogged sensor.
There is also the possibility that the door switch is left in the off position. The battery needs to be reconnected, the sensor must be cleaned, or the dashboard must be reset hard.
When water gets into the cables that power your Honda Odyssey sliding doors, the automatic doors might also stop working.
During cold weather, this can cause them to freeze, or during normal temperatures, this can disable the latch.
This article will explain the possible causes of non-working automatic doors in your Honda Odyssey. Furthermore, I will provide details about Honda Odyssey sliding door recalls and possible solutions.
Why Doesn’t My Honda Odyssey Sliding Door Open Manually?
When the door seal seals too tightly, manual sliding doors will stick or not open easily. When trying to open the door, the door handle can sometimes break. This issue can be resolved by replacing the door seal with an updated one from Honda.
Common Fixes For Honda Odyssey Sliding Door Won’t Open Issue
Honda Odyssey owners who encounter issues with automated sliding doors that refuse to close, open all the way, or malfunction could have a problem with the toggle control switch in the driver’s seat.
You should use different troubleshooting methods according to the year that your Odyssey was built. Among these methods are available if you own an Odyssey manufactured between 1999 and 2011.
Method 1
- Each door of the second-passenger section is equipped with a handle. You may be able to find them near the seatbelts if you cannot find them anywhere else.
- Take hold of the handle and pull. This pull may be sufficient to get the sliding doors back in good working condition.
Method 2
- You will find the sliding door buttons in the driver’s area of the dashboard.
- Select the button that corresponds to the stuck door.
- This should allow you to close the door completely.
Method 3
- Take a look at the jammed top opening. Rubber bumpers will be visible.
- A brittle bumper could have developed through wear and tear, or it may have fallen off without warning.
- Replace your model’s rubber bumper with a new one.
- Use the controls near the driver’s seat to open the door.
- Position the bumper such that the hook edge faces the rail.
- In the future, the door should open and close smoothly after the bumper has been repaired.
What Do I Do If My 2011 Honda Odyssey’s Sliding Door Won’t Open?
You may need to reset your sliding doors if your Honda Odyssey’s power sliding doors stop working due to a power supply issue.
The engine compartment fuse box should be checked for a damaged fuse in position 10A. This is the easiest part to check.
A fuse that relays power to the sliding doors ensures that they open and close properly.
Having blown a fuse will result in the doors not working. Fortunately, replacing the fuse and getting your doors working again is easy and inexpensive.
Make sure that both battery terminals are securely connected, then hard reset the doors by following these steps:
- Turn the ignition on
- Flip the power sliding door switch “Off.”
- Flip the same switch to the “On” position
- Hold both of the door buttons until the doors are completely closed
Having a hard reset won’t solve the problem if your fuse is intact, your battery is firmly connected, and the problem persists. You’ll need to visit a dealership or repair shop to have the issue diagnosed.
The 2018 Honda Odyssey Sliding Door Won’t Open
First, we must check the toggle switch next to both power sliding door buttons if your Honda Odyssey sliding door won’t open.
All the buttons are locked whenever the toggle is set to the down position, and the sliding doors won’t move. Flip this switch back up and see if the buttons now work.
You might find that despite it looking closed, the power sliding door won’t close properly.
So, to begin, try pressing and holding both power sliding door buttons. Give it a moment and see if the doors close fully. If they do, try opening and closing them again. There’s a good chance this just fixed the issue for you.
If it hasn’t been fixed, we’ll need to try this next: turn the switch labeled as “Main” to the “off” position and then manually open and close the doors by hand. Move that “Main” switch back to the “on” position and try the power sliding doors again.
I believe one of these suggestions would have helped. Unfortunately, you will need to bring your Honda Odyssey to a mechanic if they haven’t already done so.
If you have this issue, you should be able to get it fixed at your local Honda dealer’s service center. This quick little guide is hoped to have solved the problem.
Other Reasons Your Honda Odyssey Sliding Doors Don’t Work
Here are some other reasons why your power sliding doors could malfunction:
Broken cable
There is a cable connected to a motor in the sliding doors of your Odyssey. It works in conjunction with the motor to make the doors operate automatically. This cable may break, preventing your power sliding doors from functioning properly.
Here is how you can fix it.
- You can avoid being zapped by disconnecting the battery before you begin.
- Ensure the taillight and fasteners are loosened, then remove the tailgate and fasteners.
- Remove the parts that cover the tracks, such as plastic and metal.
- You need to take the door off the track. You may need to use a jack to secure the door.
- Remove the cables holding the door bracket with a pair of needle-nose pliers.
- Purchase and install a replacement door bracket.
- Fix the door back in place.
- Your sliding door will work again once the removed parts have been reassembled. The system should now be working properly.
Taking this step can prove to be a challenge and overwhelming. Calling a mechanic rather than attempting to fix it yourself is better.
Electrical Fault
If you have an electrical problem with your Honda Odyssey, the power doors may malfunction. If the doors are not getting enough power, it could be because they are not receiving enough electricity. There is a possibility that the batteries or fuses may be faulty.
You might be able to resolve this issue by overriding the sliding door fuse or detaching and reconnecting the batteries. Here are the steps you need to take.
- Remove the No. B16 (10 A) fuse from the relay box under the hood. This will clear the sliding door’s DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
- Turn off the main switch on the door.
- Turn the ignition to the “lock” position.
- Manually close the sliding door.
- Turn on the ignition key.
- Turn on the main door switch.
- Test the sliding doors for appropriate operation using the power sliding door switch, remote transmitter, and door handles.
To avoid damaging the fuse box or anything else, you can hire a mechanic to fix it.
Clogged Sensors
The sensors that control your Odyssey’s automatic doors can also become clogged with dirt or grime, causing them to malfunction. The sensors will not function correctly if they are covered in dirt.
To resolve this issue, take the following steps:
- Make sure your Honda is turned off.
- After that, manually open all your car’s doors.
- Sift through the door pillars and contacts. You will need to clean them if they are dirty or if grime and dust have accumulated.
- Clean the sensors and the door sliding rails with rubbing alcohol.
- Check the rubber sections of the railing again. Check that everything is in its proper place and that nothing is missing.
- Turn on the master switch and leave the doors slightly open after everything is clean and in place.
- Finally, close the doors using the door control switch.
Final Words
Check with the manufacturer if the sliding doors on your Honda Odyssey don’t work. Your vehicle could be recalled.
Earlier this year, Honda Odyssey sliding doors were recalled. In response to reports that the doors could open during transit after not closing properly, the manufacturer recalled 107,000 vehicles.

I got a lot out of this reading through how to troubleshoot all the different ways. I get more out of videos because of my ADH so if there are any videos you could point me to it would be appropriated.

My wife has a 2019 Honda Odyssey and the passenger door quit working. We scheduled an appointment with Honda to get fixed. As we waited, the other quit working. We were told it was a problem with the first doo and the second was a result of communication. They fixed the first but couldn’t the 2nd door without getting a fix of $1,300. We got home and the original door still doesn’t work.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with your Honda Odyssey’s sliding doors. In above post we talked about why this issue occurs and the possible fixes.
It seems that you have already taken the first step by scheduling an appointment with Honda. However, it’s unfortunate that the second door still doesn’t work even after the first one was fixed.
If you’re not satisfied with the service provided by Honda, you can try contacting them again and explain the situation. Alternatively, you can also try fixing the issue yourself by following the instructions provided in the video tutorials available on YouTube.
I hope this helps.
