Honda CRV 2023 Vs 2024
To understand which one you should buy, it’s wise to start with the basic difference between the Honda CRV 2023 model year and the upcoming version. Let’s start with the most generic one,
Honda CRV Engine, Powertrain, EPA 2023 Vs. 2024
We have no significant change in the powertrains of CRV 2024. It offers the same powertrains as the 2023 CRV.
However, the hybrid trims come with a slightly more powerful engine than the lower trims. For instance, the EX, LX, and EX-L feature a 190 HP, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder, that offers 179 lb-ft of torque.
All three trims also offer all-wheel drive and seamlessly incorporate variable automatic transmission, with a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds. EPA class varies for gas only based on FWD and AWD. In combination with FWD, it’s 30 MPG, and with AWD it’s 37 MPG.
Meanwhile, the other three trims Sport, Sport-L, and Sport Touring are meant for more strength. They all deliver a combined output of 204 HP and 247 lb-ft torque. Compared to the gas-only trims, the hybrid trims also come with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 2 electric motors.
The hybrid-only trims don’t run on electricity alone, often switching to gasoline when necessary, with a 1000-pound towing capacity.
Both Sport and Sport-L trims front wheel drives (FWD), with optional all-wheel drive (AWD). You would get lucky with the Sport Touring, as the all-wheel drive comes as standard with this trim.
EPA class for the hybrids is set to 40 MPG and 37 MPG in combination with FWD and AWD respectively.
Honda CRV Trim Levels 2023 Vs 2024
For 2024, the Honda CRV would have six different trim levels, in addition to the new hybrid-only Sport-L trim. Other available trims would be LX, EX, Sport Hybrid, EX-L, and Sport Touring Hybrid.
The Sport-L trim is the new highlight of the year 2024, and it bridges between the powertrain Sport Hybrid and top-level hybrid Sport Touring trims.
It will have three gas-only trims – EX-L, LX, and EX. The LX and EX are below the EX-L trim. Meanwhile, the Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring feature the Hybrid Powertrain, and between these two lies the Sport-L Trim.
The car went through a significant rise in trim numbers. We are saying this because, in 2023, the Honda CRV only had five trims – EX, LX, Sport Hybrid, EX-L, and Sport Touring Hybrid. The Sport-L hybrid is the new edition to it.
Honda CRV Interior Tech 2023 Vs 2024
In 2024, three of the six CRV trims have a 2-inch smaller touchscreen display. We are talking about the LX, EX, and Sport trim levels with a 7-inch display, that also comes with wired smartphone integration.
The other three trims – EX-L, Sport Hybrid, and Sport-L offer a smart solution with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. You can also charge your phone without the need for wires and connect to satellite radio anytime.
Needless to mention, all trims of the CRV 2024 feature the USB-A in the front part. Additionally, the base LX trim offers USB-C ports in the front and rear.
Top on the lineup, the Sport Touring comes with the standard navigation system. It also offers premium Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity and premium-level Bose audio.
So, it’s already visible to you that, the 2024 CRV tech features depend on which trim you are buying. Note that, you don’t have to pay any extra charge beyond the trim levels for all the premium tech packages.
Honda CRV 2023 Tech features almost all the standard features mentioned above but with reduced trim levels. However, the LX trim featured a 4-speaker audio system, meanwhile the EX and Sport Hybrid had a 6-speaker audio system.
The Sport-L hybrid will come with an eight-speaker audio system, which is better than the 4 or 6 speaker audio system of the 2023 model year trims.
Honda CRV 2023 Vs 2024 Safety Features
The 2024 Honda CRV models will offer the best safety and driver-assistance features. The features are about to come as standard, not optional.
It’s called the Honda Sensing Suite and you will have security features like adaptive cruise control (ACA) for low-speed monitoring, lane departure steering assist, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking (AEB) system and pedestrian and bicyclist detection.
Honda Sensing Suite comes as standard for all CRV trims. However, the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic alert are available in trim levels above the base LX.
Awards & Ratings
It’s still critical to talk about the ratings of 2024 CRV ratings, as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety hasn’t revealed much yet. However, we all know of the high reputation of the former CRV series.
The CRV 2023 earned a place in the 10 Best Trucks and SUVs award 2023. It also had the Top Safety Pick+, clearing all the crashworthiness tests.
The 2023 model year also ranked highly in terms of headlights, seat belt reminders, and the automatic front crash prevention system during daytime driving. It additionally remarked itself with a 2nd-level premium rating for the front crash system to be used in the dark.
Going back a little, the Honda CRV 1997 was the first SUV to earn the badge 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). We are hopeful that this legacy will continue with the CRV 2024 too.
